Washington, D.C. - October 21, 2008 - How to capture the online insurance market was the subject of a presentation from Norvax, the nation's leading online health insurance technology company, at the Third Annual Consumer-Driven Healthcare Summit, on October 20 in Washington D.C.
Speaker Jeremiah Desmarais, vice president of marketing for Norvax, used data from a newly published analysis of almost half a million online insurance shoppers to paint a portrait of today's customer. http://norvax.com/datareport.html. One out of every six shoppers fell into an "uninsurable" category for standard coverage, indicating that they would probably need assistance in finding a suitable policy.
"The shrinking market for group health insurance is one of the reasons more people need their own health care insurance," said Desmarais. "The future of the health insurance market is going to be online - as more and more individuals turn to the internet to find health coverage. It's essential for carriers and brokers to learn how to adapt to the expanding individual market by capturing and maintaining these online shoppers through technology."
While more people are shopping for health insurance on the internet, only about 5-10 percent are really confident enough to complete the purchase online and the remaining 90-plus percent want guidance. "That's where the important role of brokers and agents comes in. They are the trusted advisers to whom consumers can turn to get the advice they need to select the best plan for them," said Desmarais.
The seminar, "Winning Customers in an Online Market: How Carriers Must Adapt to a Changing Health Insurance Marketplace," included advice for health plans and agents on why and how they can capture this rapidly growing market, including:
